Project Reflection
We started this project with “What’s great about making movies is the sort of additive process of bringing people together and having an idea and watching the idea be added to and at the end you have this thing.” ~Laura Ziskin. The purpose of the project was to think about what makes individuals unique, and why mutation occurs. Another big purpose of this project was using our team building skills to make a final product of a quality movie.
As an individual, I met the purpose by contributing to our pod, and drawing out a storyboard for a visual to help our filmers. This meant being responsible, and using my time wisely. Along with taking the time to make the storyboard high quality, meaning having the drawings have certain angles for all of the different scenes. Meeting this purpose was very important because if not everyone individual met this purpose, that would mean that we would not have a quality movie or not have a movie at all.
As a whole class, personally I think we did pretty good at meeting the purpose of the project. Even though we did not finish our movie for the all school exhibition, our pod worked hard to make a high quality movie. Our class worked really well together, supported one another, held each individual part of the project. Even though we were not able to make a movie by the all school exhibition we still tried to meet the deadline. Our class did not have any issues, which made the whole project even better and made the project even more enjoyable. As a class we did good to appreciate others work, and give compliments to on another.
To do well throughout the project as an individual, I made sure I used my time wisely and helped out with other jobs to help make a final product. I felt that I was always on task, and I helped out with whatever I could. I was not distracted at all, I knew what I needed to do and did it right a away, along with working on my flip book to get ahead of the game. I participated in all of our team meetings, to figure out where we were and what we needed accomplish by a certain deadline. I also helped other peers in the class get back on track when they were not using their time wisely.
The class as a whole did really well on working together to as a team to make sure we meet deadlines, help others, keep on track, get the majority of the work done equally, and starting class with productive class meetings. We did well on making sure everyone helped with their part in the process of the movie making. This was particularly important because this project focused on the individual aspect of the project, meaning the class could not have had only a few people doing all the steps to make a movie, or else there wouldn't have been any movie.
Personally I had a difficult time starting the drawings for the storyboard, and getting the pictures in my head of how everyone would be happy with the scenes. Painting the stages of mitosis and meiosis on the wall for the exhibition, was difficult because of the amount of time that we had. I also had a hard time with getting the camera angles drawn out for the rest of the class, as a class we experienced some small challenges such as certain people not holding up their end of the bargain. I also notice that the project director was very stressed, even more so than everyone else. This was probably part of the job, but I feel that we as a class would have helped take some of the that stress. Personally the only challenge for me was the stress that came with trying to finish everything and turn it in on time.
As a whole class the challenges in the future could he handled by, helping the students that were not participating and somehow making there jobs more exciting so they would be more interested in helping. Making their job somewhat fun or more interesting, would help hold up their individual part of the project. Personally the stress challenge could be better handled by, sleeping more, drinking more water, and communicating more with the teacher if needed.
The collaboration aspect of this project was, every day talking with the different groups within the class, and making sure each group had what they needed because each group needed work for the other groups in order to finish their work. For example, I was in storyboard and I needed the script from the writers group in order to make the storyboard. As a whole class we also started off class mostly every day with a whole team meeting, checking in where each group was at with there jobs.
I collaborated in this project with the other students especially with my other partner in storyboarding. and with the whole class including the teacher occasionally. Making sure in the storyboard that scenes didn’t get done twice took lots of collaboration. There was only Brandon and myself in the group which made the collaboration part easy. We assigned half of the storyboard to one of us, and the other half to the other person. For me personally the collaboration part of the project was easy because I am a good at advocating for myself and sometimes others.
Looking forward, if I were to do this project again, I would change my approach to the collaboration portion of the project. I would let others take the chance to collaborate more instead of being a leader. I think that it very important, even more so in whole class projects to help make sure others hold up there end of the collaboration portion of the project. That way we can trust each other more and not have the leaders take over most of the project.
If I could add or change anything to this project I would give the project more time. Movie making in general takes a while, and making a good movie takes lots of steps such as, script writing, storyboard, props, editing the scripts, acting/filming, and editing the film. All of these steps needs to take time, and need to get done well.
For this movie project I would keep everything pretty much the same I really liked the freedom we had in this project. We learned the content and gained more skills with collaboration, and teamwork which is a very important skills to have. I also liked how this project was ran by the students and the teacher was just there to keep everyone on track.
