This I Believe Essay
Reflection:
“This I believe” started in 1951-1955 back when radio started to become a big deal. Edward R. Murrow hosted This I Believe, a daily program that reached 39 million listeners. The first volume of This I Believe essays published in 1952, and sold 300,000 copies more than any other book in the U.S during that year. The “This I believe” project was to encourage people to develop respect for beliefs different form their own. So people can share their belief that is core to who they are. The rationale behind this project was for people to share their belief that is core to who they are and what they think is most important in life or what is most important to them.
To me it felt like we jumped into this project really fast which made me a little nervous because I had no idea on what I wanted to write about for my belief. Although after working on the brainstorm I began to become excited about the project. I wrote my essay on the importance of family, my final draft of my essay was 446 words.
The hardest part of this project for me was coming up with a belief because I had so many ideas of what I wanted to write. Another part of this project that was hard for me was when I was trying to start my essay, just getting ideas on the page was hard because I wasn’t sure how I wanted to write my essay. I didn’t know if I wanted to write in an authentic voice or in a narrative coherence voice.
I am proud of my final product because I had a hard time starting it and I thought that it wasn’t going to turn out well. I am proud of the refinement I put into my essay I did a lot of editing which made it sound better.
Learning more about beliefs has got me thinking more about how everyone has very different ideas about their beliefs. How not everyone is going to agree or like others beliefs. Its has made me realize how people need to develop respect for beliefs different form their own.
